In a startling move, the Detroit Tigers have signed Justin Verlander, the husband of actress and supermodel Kate Upton, to a 1 year, $13 million deal today. The move brings Upton- who first appeared in the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and made the cover for the 2012, 2013, 2017 and 2024 issues - back to the town where she first met and married Verlander.

Verlander, who will turn 43 this month, made his big-league debut in 2005, with two starts that year for the Tigers. His breakthrough year was in 2006 - the same season the Tigers made the playoffs for the first time in 18 years. He would go on to play 13 seasons for the team. He now joins pitching ace Tarik Skubal and newly signed Framber Valdez in the starting rotation for what should, by all accounts, be a very promising year for the Detroit Tigers.

Welcome back, Kate. And, of course, Justin.
