What is Really Going on in Michigan

From before the results of the primary election for the Michigan US Senate seat was made official, the finger-pointing and racist-pointing had already gotten crazy on social media.  Including from the candidates.  Immediately after the results were in, Abdul El-Sayed challenged the Republican winner, Mike Rogers, to pronounce is name in Egyptian Arabic.  And Mike Rogers tried to remind everybody that El-Sayed is a Muslim. 

But this election will not be about Arabs vs. white people.  Nor’ will it be about Arabs vs. black people.  This election – for the U.S. Senate seat in Michigan- is going to be all about just one thing – Generation Z vs. Everybody.

I do not care what anybody says, Generation Z is going to be a problem going forward with the rest of our lives.  There is no doubt that it was this generation that helped elect Zoran Mamdani in New York City – as well as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.  And anyone who voted in Michigan’s primary election on Tuesday will have noticed, there was an inordinate number of youngsters voting for the very first time.  FOR A PRIMARY ELECTION???  The kid in front me was so confused by the process that the women working the precinct allowed me to go ahead of him. I completed my vote and walked out the door, and the poor kid was still scratching his head.  You just know he was there for only one reason – TO CHANGE THIS DAMN DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM.

So, to all the white people and black people - and Arabic people who came here to get away from crazy governments- and particularly to all old people- let’s not get swayed by this smooth-talking (albeit smart) socialist who wants to change the way democracy works.  Leave that for the naïve youngsters who are still trying to figure life out and who pop their heads up occasionally from their phones to see what is happening in the real world.  Let’s vote for the kind of American that Michigan can be proud of – someone who has served our military, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and as a U.S. Congressman.  Let’s vote for Mike Rogers- or don’t vote at all.

In the meantime, let’s just try to get through the next 20 years before Gen Z takes completely over.
